The problem:

During the turbulent 2001, we found something very interesting (from a data-processor's point of view). While it was common knowledge that the economy was going south during the 1st and 2nd Qtr 2001, our customers were still getting new orders. Most of these orders came from fancy forecasting/planning systems costing several million dollars.
 
Then came the wave of cancellations in the 2nd and 3rd Qrtr.
 
These fancy systems again did not respond during the first quarter this year, there were no orders at all. Now, at the end of the quarter, there is a wave of rush orders- most of them manually generated.
 
The sophisticated systems seem to be creating more problems, than they are solving. The lack of application of human knowledge (in the automated portion of the supply chain) is the major cause of concern for our customers who cannot deal with cancellations easily.
 
The Solution:

Therefore, it has become necessary to monitor each of the major customers on a day-to-day basis compared to 'prior yr sales'/'Curr year plan' and with 'prior-month'/'prior-week'/'prior-day' basis. It has also become necessary to monitor the cancellations, returns and allowances on a day-to-day basis.
 
With this in mind, we developed a customer intelligence system. This is based on sound and solid principles of Activity Based Management theory. It contains a full fledged data warehouse scheme with simple data-projection methods.
